Meaningful Awards And Relationships: Just Two Of The Things That Make Highgrove At Tates Creek Worth Paying Attention To

When our Highgrove chef, Shaun Meza plans a farm-to-table menu, he asks residents to join him at the Farmer’s Market to help choose the freshest produce. And when he discovered a resident shared his passion for fresh herbs, they planted the community’s first onsite garden together. His philosophy: cooking is a form of customer service, and he brings his exuberance to the way he serves others in and out of the kitchen.

It’s stories like these, and people like Shaun who make Highgrove a special place.

Let me share another example: Glenn McCarty has been our transport van driver since we opened in 2017. He makes sure our residents arrive safely to group outings around the community, appointments, etc. Glenn was recognized by many physician’s offices in the area for his kind and attentive customer service when coordinating drop offs/pick ups—something our residents appreciate quite a bit as well. We were also happy to have Glenn’s wife, Mollie as a resident with us for a time.

When I say that the minute you walk in the door at Highgrove you feel welcome, I really mean that. Henry, our housedog and miniature poodle, gives a warm welcome to everyone who comes through the door. And we consider him an ambassador for the experience you’ll have as a resident and family member at Highgrove.

We believe in our people. That’s why we invest in their development and fulfillment and promote from within. This is a good practice for keeping the best people and doing the best job in serving our residents.

Lisa Stamper was a Certified Nursing Assistant and Certified Dementia Practitioner and was recently promoted to Memory Care Program Director. And Melissa Kell was promoted from Certified Nursing Assistant to Activities Director. Our residents know and love Lisa and Melissa, and their continued presence, personalized knowledge and obvious commitment are good for everyone.

We’re proud to share that our Maintenance and Housekeeping teams have been with us since we opened, and I have been on board as Executive Director since groundbreaking.

Awards don’t define us, but they do tell us our hard work is worth it and our hearts are in the right place. We’ve been voted to the Best of Senior Living list by
Senior Advisor for three years running, been recognized by SHERPA for Relationship Building and consistently high occupancy rates, and have been featured in Kentucky Home and Garden, on Health 24/7 and local news shows as a model of local hospitality, warmth and excellence.

We also think connection to our Highgrove community and the community at large are really important. Which is why we’ve been members of The Greater Lexington Chamber of Commerce, the Kentucky Assisted Senior Living Association, Women Leading Kentucky, Women’s Professional Forum and the Alzheimer’s Association. It’s also why Highgrove provided a $2,500 scholarship to a University of Kentucky student to interview residents and tell their stories.

Residents and families will find comfortable and resort-like Independent Living Cottages, Assisted Living and Memory Care accommodations and amenities on one Highgrove campus. They’ll find us centrally located to the University of Kentucky, with Tates Creek Shopping Center right across the street and the outdoor shopping center, The Summit nearby. They’ll also find safety, security and people like Shaun, Glenn, Lisa, Melissa, our Maintenance and Housekeeping teams and me to make them feel well cared for and at home.
